MIRBOO NORTH FOOTBALL NETBALL 2024 PRESEASON REPORT

by Rover

AFTER THE STORM COMES THE SUNSHINE

MIRBOO North Football Netball Club is fighting back hard after 13 February's severe storm event left a trail of destruction throughout the town and district.

In the space of three horrific minutes, roofs flew off houses, giant eucalyptus trees were cut in half and many residents' hearts broken.

Tigerland's oval was covered in foliage and its four 10-metre high aluminum goalposts had snapped at right angles like candy sticks .

In the aftermath, Joe Piper resigned the presidency of MNFNC, to become the club's facilities manager and begin the clean up in earnest.

His replacement, Andy McCarthy, immediately set a cracking pace in his new role at the helm of the mighty Tigers.

Katrina Palmer returns as netball vice president, a post she previously held for a number of seasons.

Long serving football vice president and senior football manager, Andrew Taylor, also resigned and is now the club's Mid Gippsland League delegate.

As well, Damien Turner has been appointed senior football coach, following Peter Mongta's decision to resign and pursue other interests.

Daniel Taylor takes up the position of senior football manager after two years at Yinnar, where he coached the Magpies to the MGFNL senior 2022 footy premiership.

ROVER'S 2024 PRESEASON WISDOM

1. An effective engine room must have compression and aggression, combined with the speed of an e-bike on full throttle.

2. As far as many football spectators go, words are small change for their thoughts, most of which, wisely, aren't disclosed to other people.

3. Ineffective disposals produce unintended consequences.

4. Giving away free kicks only helps the opposition.

5. Every coach wants a defence that's tighter than a honky tonk guitar string.

6. A netball in your team's hands is worth two in no person's land.
